Common questions
Straight answers to the questions we hear most in the first call: cost, timelines, deadlines, and what to do next.
It depends on the case. We quote flat fees for defined work such as a green card petition, a naturalization application, or a bond hearing, and offer payment plans on most cases. The first consultation is free, and you receive the quote before you commit to anything.
Yes. A free, confidential consultation by phone, video, or WhatsApp, in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, or French. We review your situation, explain the options, and tell you honestly what we recommend and what it would cost.
Many simple filings can be done alone. A lawyer matters when there is a deadline, a prior denial, a criminal record, an overstay or unlawful presence, a detention, or a court date, and whenever the wrong first move could close a better path. Ask us; if you do not need us, we will say so.
Yes. Immigration law is federal, so we represent clients in all 50 states and appear in immigration courts nationwide, in person and by video. Our attorneys are admitted in New York, New Jersey, California, Massachusetts, and New Mexico.
Because immigration law is federal, you do not need a lawyer in your own city. We represent clients in all 50 states by phone, video, and WhatsApp, and we appear in immigration courts across the country. We also keep offices in San Diego, Miami, and Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. Wherever you are, the same attorneys handle your case from the first free consultation.
Yes. Use the free tools on this page to check USCIS processing times and find your immigration court, then call us if the case is overdue or a hearing is coming up. For clients we monitor every case and confirm each hearing date directly.
Spouses, parents, and minor children of U.S. citizens commonly wait about a year; other family categories wait years because of annual limits; employment-based cases depend on category and country of birth. The green card calculator on this page gives a range for your situation.
Call us immediately. We locate the person through ICE's detainee locator and the facilities, contact the deportation officer, and request a bond hearing with a complete bond packet. Every day in detention matters, and the first 72 hours decide a lot.
Not yet. A Notice to Appear starts removal proceedings; it is not a deportation order. The government's allegations can be contested, proceedings can be terminated in the right cases, and relief such as cancellation of removal, asylum, or adjustment of status can be pursued. Do not miss the hearing.
Generally one year from your last arrival in the United States, with exceptions for changed or extraordinary circumstances. Withholding of removal and protection under the Convention Against Torture have no deadline. Use the asylum screener on this page, then talk to us before filing.
Usually five years as a permanent resident (three if married to a U.S. citizen), continuous residence and physical presence, good moral character, basic English, and passing the civics test. Trips abroad, tax issues, and old arrests are the usual complications; we review them before you file Form N-400.
In some cases, yes: expedite requests where criteria are met, service requests and congressional inquiries for overdue cases, and a writ of mandamus in federal court when the delay is unreasonable. Mandamus cases often resolve within a few months.
Any immigration documents you have: passports, visas, I-94, notices from USCIS or the court, a Notice to Appear, prior applications and decisions, and any criminal records. Do not worry if you are missing pieces; we start with what you have.
