How Much Will the Immigration Bond Be?

The legal minimum immigration bond is $1,500; judges commonly set $5,000 to $10,000, and more where flight risk or public-safety concerns appear. Family ties, a stable home, work history, court attendance, criminal history, and prior removal orders all move the number, and certain convictions block a bond entirely. Six questions give you a realistic range.

Questions about immigration bond estimator

Who sets the immigration bond amount?

ICE makes the first custody decision. If ICE denies bond or sets it too high, an immigration judge can review it at a bond hearing (a custody redetermination).

How is an immigration bond paid?

A sponsor with lawful status pays the full amount to ICE through the online CeBONDS system or at an ICE office; a licensed immigration bond company can post it for a fee. The money is refundable when the case ends if every condition was met.

What is mandatory detention?

Certain criminal convictions and some entry situations make a person ineligible for a bond from the immigration judge. Whether a conviction really triggers mandatory detention is a technical question that attorneys frequently win.

How fast can a bond hearing happen?

Typically within days to a few weeks of the request, depending on the facility and the court's docket. The sooner a lawyer files with a complete bond packet, the sooner the hearing is set.
