How do I check my immigration court date?

Use the EOIR Automated Case Information system online or call 1-800-898-7180 with your A-number, the nine-digit number on your immigration documents.

What happens if I miss my immigration court hearing?

The judge can order removal in your absence. A motion to reopen must be filed quickly with evidence of the reason, such as lack of notice or exceptional circumstances.

I moved. How do I update my address with the court?

File Form EOIR-33 with your court within five days of moving. Update USCIS separately. Missing notices because of an old address rarely undoes an in absentia order.

How long do immigration court cases take?

Years at most courts: estimated waits range from about two years in smaller courts to more than four in New York, Los Angeles, and Newark. A lawyer can sometimes move the case faster, or use the time to build the strongest defense.
